Description
3Indications:
Bensedin is used in psychiatric illnesses like anxiety disorders (anxiolytic), insomnia, seizures, muscle spasticity, and for alcohol withdrawal symptoms and delirium tremens, which is a sign of alcohol intoxication. It is also administered preoperatively for inducing sedation in patients scheduled for surgery.
Mechanism of Action:
Bensedin binds to BZ subunit of GABAA receptor, potentiate it and increase chloride channel opening. This causes the membrane to hyperpolarize which in turn reduces the production of action potential. This effect predominantly occurs in cerebral cortex, cerebellum, limbic system, and thalamus.
