Description
Indications:
Clonazepam is commonly prescribed for epilepsy, panic disorder, and acute anxiety. It is particularly effective in treating absence seizures and certain forms of myoclonic seizures. It may also be used off-label for insomnia and movement disorders.
Mechanism of Action:
Clonazepam enhances the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) at GABAA receptors, increasing chloride ion influx into neurons. This results in neuronal membrane stabilisation and decreased excitability, leading to anticonvulsant and anxiolytic effects.
