Description
Indications:
Ksalol is an intermediate acting benzodiazepine. It is an anxiolytic and given for anxiety disorders like, panic disorder, GAD, and anxiety due to depression. It is also used off-label for depression.
Mechanism of Action:
Ksalol binds to γ-aminobutyric acid (GABAA) receptors at the interface of α and γ subunits. The activation of this receptor opens chloride channels which prevents the transmission of neuronal impulses across the synapse. This drug potentiates the effect of these receptors and increases the frequency with which chloride channels open, thereby hyperpolarizing the membrane and reducing nerve conduction.
